Aluminium Sulphate Octadecahydrate

Aluminum sulfate octahydrate is a chemical substance with the formula Al2 (SO4) 3 · 18H2O. Under normal temperature and pressure, Aluminium sulfate octahydrateis a white amorphous crystal or particle, soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol organic solvents. Aluminum sulphate octahydrate is stable in the air and begins to weather when the relative humidity is about 20%. It gradually heats up and melts, losing crystalline water at 250 ℃ and decomposing at higher temperatures.

The aqueous solution of octahydrate aluminum sulfate is acidic and has a sour and astringent taste. It begins to decompose when heated to 530 ℃, and the final product of decomposition is aluminum trioxide at 860 ℃. During the hydrolysis process of octahydrate aluminium sulphate, the intermediate product alkaline salt is first generated, followed by the formation of aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum sulphate can precipitate 18 molecules of crystalline water at room temperature, which is octahydrate aluminum sulfate. It contains 51.3% anhydrous aluminum sulfate and will not self dissolve (dissolve in its own crystalline water) even at 100 ℃. This substance is not easily weathered and loses crystalline water. It is relatively stable and will lose water when heated. At high temperatures, it will decompose into oxides of aluminum oxide and sulfur. It is heated to 770 ℃ and begins to decompose into alumina, sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide, and water vapor. The aqueous solution of octahydrate aluminum sulfate can boil for a long time to generate basic aluminum sulfate. Industrial products are gray white flakes, granules, or blocks, with a light green color due to the presence of low iron salts, and the surface turns yellow due to the oxidation of low iron salts.
